5.0L 32 Valve V8 Cummins (2007-Present)

Picture
Cummins 5.0L 32 Valve V8 Turbodiesel Engine
Cummins 5.0L V8 Turbodiesel Engine was the engine created by Cummins specifically for partnering with Nissan's Titan XD.  Originally this engine had been offered to Ram as an alternative to the typical 6.7L Cummins for a more economic friendly diesel engine, as fuel economy was favored with this engine over power. Ram refused the offer however and instead decided to use an eco-diesel engine distributed by VM Motori.
Due to the nature of this engine, and its strive for efficiency over power, it is not highly sought after for performance. Nissan's discontinuation of the Diesel line of Titan's mainly had to do with the fact that they were not able to sell as many of these as they had hoped.
Although there is some aftermarket support for this engine, many people preffered to use the earlier 5.9L 12 and 24 Valve Cummins engines in their builds, and therefore has less support.

Common Engine Issues and Resolutions

The 5.0L Cummins has no shortage of issues, along with the truck it was partnered with. Since Cummins strayed away from it's typical Inline-6 configuration in favor of a V8, they were bound to run into plenty of problems, even some problems that were reoccurring from earlier "B" series models. Some of the problems include Problematic DEF system, defective transmissions, bad factory alignment, poor hood and roof paint, bad turbo pressure sensors, diesel fumes inside the truck cab, power steering noise, tail gate handle issues, cruise control issues, Engine hesitation (deceleration and acceleration), door locks not working, tuning or mechanical issues, drivers seat heat and cool issues, rattles and squeaks, front end noise, loud power steering, bad starting system, DEF warning errors,  torque management safety problems, fuel tank breather tube Recall, turbo speed sensor issues, loud clang during cold start, alignment issues, Torque fluctuation issues, loose seats, false regenerations, excessive engine vibration, steering wheel memory problem, cab to bed alignment defects, delayed 3rd to 4th shift when transmission is cold, oil leaks, shutter while driving, and a 4WD Error Warning Message.
